Saturday Something: Zootopia References

I wasn’t super excited to see Zootopia, even after all of the positive reviews … but I finally relented a couple of weeks ago, and I am so so glad I did! So funny and heartwarming!!

I know much ha been written about the references to other Disney movies in Zootopia. Like ZPD Chief Bojo’s lecture to Judy:

Life isn’t some cartoon musical where you sing a little song and all your insipid dreams magically come true. So let. It. Go.

Or how the voice of  Frozen‘s Anna–Kristen Bell–also voiced Priscilla (the female sloth). Or the less obvious fact that Duke Weaselton, the bootlegger, is voiced by the incomparable Alan Tudyk–the same actor who brought Frozen‘s Duke of Weselton to life. (Alan also voiced Alistair from Big Hero 6, King Candy in Wreck-It Ralph and a bunch of voices in Phineas and Ferb.)

Weaselton

But! Dan and I noticed the coolest reference ever, and we haven’t seen it covered anywhere else:

Emmit Otterton is the missing mammal that sets Judy Hopps on the case in Zootopia. Emmet Otter is the down-on-his-luck musician from a Jim Henson’s Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas special from 1978.

Too cute! I want to snuggle them both right up!!

Did you see any other nods to Disney ish in Zootopia? Let us know about them in the comments below!
