Christmastime! Every year, as my favorite shows go on winter hiatus, I fill up my DVR with Christmas specials and movies. I have my favorites (as I’m sure you do!), and I always make sure to get a few new movies, as well. Just to keep things interesting. The movies really help build my holiday cheer, and it’s fun to half-watch them while we decorate the tree, wrap presents and drink egg nog.
This year, we saved a few holiday Phineas and Ferb specials, and while I consider myself a P&F fan, I’d never seen any of these before. So I was really surprised to hear this for the first time ever:
It’s called S’winter, and it’s a jaunty little tune the boys imagine up during their celebration of Christmas in July. But listen closely, especially if you’ve heard it before … because the refrain seemed mighty familiar to me. Sort of like … this:
While this one’s a lot more recognizable to anyone who has kids or loves animated movies, it most definitely came second–it was released in 2013, while the Phineas and Ferb episode came out in 2011.
A cursory search of the Internet strongly implies that the original song was written by Danny Jacob, Swampy Marsh and Dan Povenmire, and that it was modeled the super famous Christmas song, Sleigh Ride. (I’ll be honest … I don’t see a whole ton of resemblance.)
i don’t mean to imply that Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (of Frozen fame) ripped off the P&F team. Actually, I am not sure what I mean to imply other than, “Wow! That’s totally weird!” Isn’t it?
What do you think? Am I nuts? Let me know in the comments.
