Quick Bite: Waffles at Roaring Fork

Roaring Fork by Josh McConnell (Mouse on the Mind)

Today, we decided to fuel up for a big day in the Magic Kingdom with a delicious stop at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. There, at Roaring Fork, we ordered three specialty Mickey waffles absolutely smothered in saucey goodness.

First up are the Bananas Foster Waffles: three warm, delicious waffles topped with a buttered rum sauce and served with bacon. We wanted to love this sweet treat, but the sauce had too much sugar and not nearly enough caramelization. It was good but not stellar.

Next, we tucked into the strawberry and orange waffles, which also included bacon. On this plate, fresh strawberries were sandwiched between the fresh malted waffles and orange-scented whipped cream. Our strawberries were overripe—sweet, but not too sweet. And we could barely taste the orange flavor at all. It was yummy but not mind blowing.

Our final bites were of the “chocolate lovers” waffle. On this plate, poor Mickey was literally drowned in chocolate syrup and buried under a pile of chocolate chips that didn’t quite melt. On the plus side, there was enough chocolate to dip our bacon into. But it sure was a lot of cheap-tasting chocolate.

Our recommendation? Head over to the Whispering Canyon Café and order up the specialty Belgian waffle there. It doesn’t have a Mickey face, but for just three dollars more, it’s topped with maple butter and candied pecans, and it’s a whole world of delicious.

If you could put anything on your Mickey waffle, what would you add?
