The Scene: Main Street in Magic Kingdom, a mid-September Friday afternoon.
The Situation: I flew into Orlando International at 6 a.m. that morning and took Magical Express to the resort. Dan was working. In fact, everyone was working. After spending a few hours in the Park by myself and with hours to go before the Patron party, I was looking for a little heat-erasing pick-me-up before making the long trek back to my resort.
The Solution: The Plaza Ice Cream Parlor for sweet, sweet sustenance.
After a bit of hemming and hawing in front of the Plaza’s menu board, I ordered a signature ice cream cookie sandwich, with sweet, creamy vanilla ice cream cradled between two fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies. Riches in hand, I headed over to East Center Street to dig in.
I couldn’t finish it, of course. Especially not before it melted. Those ice cream sandwiches are meant to be shared. But taking in the calm atmosphere while I snacked on this sweet treat was a little slice of Disney perfection. Just the best way to end a solo visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth and to kickoff a mini-vacation.
