Quick Bite: Coppa Del Nonno at Italy’s Gelato Cart

Melissa enjoys Coppa del Nonno (Mouse on the Mind)

This week, we’re heading back to the Gelato Cart in Epcot’s Italy Pavilion for another sweet, creamy treat! This time, I ordered the Coppa Del Nonno, which I think is Italian for “ohmygodawesome.”

Okay, it actually means “Grandfather’s Cup,” which is the name of a coffee-flavored ice cream that is popular in Italy. (History lesson done.) What it means, practically, is one scoop each of vanilla, chocolate and cookies and cream gelato smothered with chocolate sauce, whipped cream and cookie pieces.

The effect is overwhelming! The chocolate gelato is so rich and thick that it’s almost like chocolate mousse. The cookies and cream is amazingly sweet and creamy, filled with flecks of slightly soggy chocolate cookie pieces. If you can get a little bit of everything in one bite, you are in for a mouthful of heaven.

That said, it is a lot of food! If you don’t want to commit to the full sundae, I’d absolutely recommend a single scoop of the cookies and cream gelato. But if you do want to commit to the full sundae and you’re looking for an extra-indulgent treat, order a glass of prosecco with your gelato. The bubbly sweetness cuts through the richness of the gelato like a charm.

Plus, prosecco. So, that’s a win.

The Mouse just gave you $5: what do you order from the gelato cart?!
