Painting the Roses Redux

Earlier this week, I teamed up with Estelle from This Happy Place Blog and Nicole of Sparkly Ever After to present some Disney-inspired nail palettes. And while I was working on that post, I uncovered a new color combo that I wanted to share.

The story begins a few months ago, when I met Jodi Benson and got an amazing manicure during an event for the launch of The Little Mermaid on Blu-Ray. At that time, the pros from manicube created a mermaid-inspired manicure combining Deborah Lippmann’s Mermaid’s Dream Nail Lacquer with some accents of chunky gold glitter.

Mermaid polish pair (Mouse on the Mind)The manicure was amazing, but the Mermaid’s Dream polish was over-the-top costly. But then Revlon Parfumerie released 040: a supposedly wintergreen-scented shimmery metallic seafoam green with blue glitter. It’s actually a direct knock off of the Lippmann polish … the glitter isn’t quite as chunky and there’s less of it. And I feel that the coverage isn’t quite as good. But it’s a pretty good match … and WAY less costly.

Paired with a stripe of Julep’s Diamond Theory (I prefer to do it at the cuticle on all of the nails but at the distal edge on the thumbs), I was able to almost exactly recreate my Under-the-Sea-inspired manicure for a fraction of the cost. And you know how I love to save money! (More pennies for my next Disney trip!)
