DVD Extras: Oz the Great and Powerful

Oz the Great and PowerfulHey, guess what? I have a copy of Oz the Great and Powerful (the Blu-ray / DVD) to give away to one very awesome lucky reader. You can enter at the bottom of this here post. So get entering!

But before I go giving away my things all willy nilly, I always use them. Because I am questionable like that. So even though I already saw Oz (and wrote a non-spoilery review, WHICH I AM SURE YOU’VE READ),  I sneaked a peek at the Bonus Features. Because Bonus Features!

Unfortunately, most of the features were only available on the Blu-ray disc … and I don’t have a Blu-ray player. Sad trombone. Fortunately, for us poors without fancy electronics, there are two special features on the DVD: Walt Disney and the Road to Oz and a blooper reel.

Walt Disney and the Road to Oz
I’m sort of an Oz nerd, so I really enjoyed this historical look at Walt’s love of L. Frank Baum’s universe. The short makes the interesting point that Oz is the first great American fantasy, so it only makes sense that it would appeal to Walt’s Mid-Western roots.

It traces that totally understandable love from one project to the next—and there were several—as Walt tried to sprinkle some Disney magic on the wonderful land of Oz. I especially loved the scenes with members of the Mickey Mouse Club, remembering Walt’s connection to the stories.

Whether you love Oz or obscure Walt history, you’ll love this short featurette, which is available on both the Blu-ray and DVD version of the film.

Bloopers
This is your pretty standard blooper reel, with some great looks at the real personalities behind the characters. I really liked the Wicked Witch’s bloopers … I guess being effortlessly evil isn’t as effortless as you’d think!

I love Bonus Features, don’t you?? Would you like to see them for yourself? Enter below for a chance to win a copy of  Oz the Great and Powerful!!
