Magical Blogorail: Thanksgiving Dinner in the Parks

Magical Blogorail Green Logo

Welcome to those of you joining me from Disney Living and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the third stop on our Magical Blogorail

This was kind of a weird one for me … in my world, the holidays have always met gathering with my entire extended family. Lots of food. Too much food. But even more cousins and family friends laughing loudly and having a great time. Disney just doesn’t seem to fit in.

But a challenge is a challenge. So I started thinking. And Liberty Tree Tavern or Garden Grill. Two pretty obvious turkey-serving family-style meals where the food is plentiful and holiday themed. But I dug a little deeper, and I think I came up with something even better: Boatwright’s Dining Hall at Port Orleans Riverside.

Boatwright's Dining Hall (Mouse on the Mind)

It’s a little bit of an odd choice, I’d guess, but here’s my thinking: while the restaurant is huge, it’s broken up into smaller rooms, and it feels really warm and cozy. Almost like a big family dining room. And while it’s a large space, it’s rarely ever feels over-crowded. So it’s a nice setting for a family meal.

And then there’s the food. I’ve written about it before, but I really do love it there. The food is hearty and delicious. It’s traditional with a few little twists that make it feel a little more exciting. No, I can’t order a traditional turkey dinner here, but I can order the a grilled pork chop with Amber Ale barbecue sauce, cheesey grits and onion rings. (They had pigs in the 1600’s, didn’t they?)

For dessert, if I so desire, I can still enjoy a slice of traditional pecan pie. But there’s also rum raisin bread pudding or bananas foster cake on the menu. And the biggest, most delicious reason that Boatwright’s is perfect for Thanksgiving:
