Welcome to the second Kill Refurb Marry Blog Hop! I am so excited, and I hope lots of Disney bloggers will join in the fun. You can check out their links on this month’s Kill Refurb Marry homepage.
This month, we’re measuring Crescent Lake Restaurants. For some people, that might include the Swan and Dolphin Resorts, but I decided only to draw from my experiences at the Boardwalk Inn, the Yacht Club and the Beach Club.
I totally love this area … while I don’t think I’d say any of the resorts are my favorite, I do think the Crescent Lake area is my favorite resort area. There’s so much to see and do, and it’s walking distance to two Parks. Plus there’s awesome food at every turn. Can’t top that!
Despite that, I did have to kill one of the resort restaurants, so here goes …
Kill: Cape May Cafe
Okay. So. You probably love this place. It is a lowish priced buffet in a great location, so I don’t blame you for loving it. But here’s the thing: it is ugly. Ugly, outdated and really sad looking. It looks like it would be more at home in a run-down version of the Grand Floridian. And maybe I should say, “hey, let’s refurb this thing and restore it to its former glory.” But can we be honest for a second? My boyfriend can’t eat shellfish, so this place pretty much wants to kill him. So forget Cape May!
And for those of you who are up in arms about losing a unique character meet and greet? Well, I don’t see any reason why Minnie and her bathing-suited friends can’t take their totally appropriately attired selves to the Disney Water Parks for some super cute photo ops. Say splash!
Refurb: Beaches and Cream Soda Shoppe
Who doesn’t love an old fashioned soda shop: ice cream floats and delish grilled sandwiches? No one. Absolutely everyone loves Beaches and Cream. Even the name of this place oozes delicious cuteness! But what I don’t love? How small it is. I mean, look at it! The tables are tiny and there’s very little space between them, so it’s nearly impossible to get a seat (they don’t even take ADRs!), and if you do manage to sneak in, you’d better be prepared to get quite cozy with your neighbors. Let’s take it down for a refurb and make it bigger! Bigger! More!
It’s no secret that I have a total heart on for breakfast foods. And the absolute king of all breakfasts at Walt Disney World can be found at Kouzzina on the Boardwalk. Between the open kitchen, the press pot coffee and the decadent menu, I want to take up residence under the boardwalk and eat until I explode. But it’s not just for breakfast: Chef Cat Cora and her team cook up a mean Greek lasagna and a ton of other yummy dishes. I would eat here twice a day for a week and never run out of delicious bites to sample and re-sample. Yum!
