Welcome to those of you joining me from Walt Disney World: Not Just For Kids and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the fourth stop on our Magical Blogorail.
When I got my first Blogorail Green assignment, I have to admit: it was kind of a head scratcher. My best Disney moments of 2012?! But there are ever so many amazing Disney moments to pick from! This year, I enjoyed two solo trips and one trip with my amazing husband totaling 13 days in Disney World, each filled with great moments and cherished memories.
My first trip of 2012, in February, was my first really, truly solo trip. I’ve had an anxiety disorder since I was a young child, so traveling and staying on my own was a huge win for me. The first time I stepped out of my little room at Pop Century Resort and decided where to go all on my own was a personally empowering moment for me. With all of Disney World spread at my feet, I decided to … go to Downtown Disney! Weird choice, I know. But I had a really great solo date with myself, and it made me feel like I could do anything.
One More Disney Day was also pretty fantastic! I didn’t manage to stay in the Magic Kingdom for 24 hours straight (in fact, I took a mid-day nap and still only stayed in the Park until 2 a.m.), but I made a lot of great friends that day, and I am grateful for each and every one of them. Yes, I was completely exhausted and cranky by the time I finally crawled into bed in the wee hours, but it was an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything.
In September, I visited with my husband. On that trip, we experienced a lot of firsts, but I think my favorite may have been Dapper Day. We both got all dressed up and headed to Hollywood Studios with some friends for a really amazing evening. On the final day of our trip, we were lucky enough to be part of a sneak preview of Enchanted Tales with Belle, and I experienced another perfect Disney moment as I was selected to perform as a fork in the show!
My late October trip was another solo visit, this time sharing a hotel room with a friend I’d met during One More Disney Day. By far the best moment of that trip was meeting with Rapunzel and Eugene during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party while I was dressed as Rapunzel!! You want to talk about an amazing character interaction? It was literally the best I’ve ever experienced.
The thing I love most about Disney is that it’s constantly changing and growing–there’s always something new to experience–but at the same time it remains a safe, comfortable place that I grow to know and love more intimately year after year. For someone like me, who is prone to debilitating anxiety and panic attacks, that combination is the perfect cocktail.
For me, 2012 was a full of great Disney moments, and yes, some of them were about exciting new attractions, but more than anything else, my best moments were about the personal growth, great friends and unfettered joy. Thanks, Disney World!
