With the Flower and Garden Festival coming up, and everyone getting super excited (me, included) about the spiced rum-laced Dole Whip Floats coming to the Showcase, I thought it was time to share with you my own adult-beverage version of the Dole Whip. It’s easier than you might think:
Step One: Get thee to the Poly! There, both alcohol and Dole Whips are readily accessible, and you don’t have to risk the no-no of sneaking alcohol into the Magic Kingdom. (I tend to frown on doing things that’ll get me kicked out–or worse!–from the Parks.)
Step Two: Head to the Tambu Lounge on the second floor of the resort. It’s a tiny little bar right outside of ‘Ohana, and the bar tenders there will treat you right. Here’s the most difficult choice you’ll have to make today: how much money do you want to spend on alcohol?
If you want to go all out, order the Lapu Lapu. For about $14, you’ll get a few ounces of dark rum, Bacardi 151 and some fruit juice all served in a really pretty pineapple.
If you are looking for a more mid-range drink, order a Rum Runner. For about $8, you’re basically getting the same thing–two rums and some fruit juice–without the pretty packaging.
If you’re cheap (or Disney broke), just order a shot of spiced rum and call it a day.
When you order your drink of choice, ask the bartender to strain out the ice before he gives it to you–this will make things a little cleaner later. Also, tell him that you want to take it down to the beach. He’ll put it in a to-go cup for you.
Step Three: Take your newly purchased rum-based goodness down to Captain Cook’s Snack Company on the first floor of the resort. There, purchase your Dole Whip for about $2.90–you get to fill the cup yourself, so you can pile it high with as much deliciousness as you want.
Step Four: Back at your table, it’s time to mix your madness. If you opted for the Lapu Lapu, you’re going to want to scoop the Dole Whip into the pineapple. If you opted for the Rum Runner, your easiest bet is to pour about half of the alcohol right into your Dole Whip cup. (Either drink the other half or share it with a friend.) If you opted for the simple shot, just pour it over your Dole Whip.
Step Five: Enjoy!! You just made your own awesome Frozen Adult Beverage for $20 or less!
As you can probably tell from my photos, I went with the Rum Runner option. I’m not going to lie: the fruit juice made the whole thing VERY SWEET, and next time, I am going to go for the more economical single shot of rum. But I really don’t think you can go wrong here. It’s alcohol. And Dole Whip. So. Go to Crazytown, kids. But be responsible!
