True Fact: Until recently, I had never seen Disney Prep & Landing. Though it premiered in 2009 and has spawned two sequels, somehow the holiday classic remained off my radar. I’m glad that’s all changed because the 30-minute cartoon is both hilarious and suspenseful.
In case you’re as sadly unaware as I was just a few short days ago, Lanny and Wayne are members of an elite squadron of Christmas elves known as Prep and Landing. Their team is responsible for preparing houses for Santa’s arrival, so that his work goes smoothly and efficiently.
For starters, the animated specials have an all-star voice cast, including Kids in the Hall funnyman Dave Foley as well as Scrubs‘ standout Sarah Chalke. Beyond that, the concept is smart and innovative, and the details are top notch! I love all of the amazing tools Lanny and Wayne have at their disposal, from candy cane grappling hooks to Christmas-tree-shaped air landing lights.
Kids will love it, and parents will find the funny in places they never expected to. And, as a bonus, in addition to being fun and funny, the short also has a great lesson about working together and, to a lesser extent, taking pride in your work.
Three holiday cheers for the cutest elves this side of Christmas morning!
Prep and Landing replays on Tuesday, December 18, at 4:30 p.m. EST and Saturday, December 22, at 10 a.m. EST on ABC Family. Don’t miss it!
