Countdown to Dismas: Tiki-Tastic Holiday

On the second night of our recent trip, Dan and I heard about some amazing Christmas-ness happening at Trader Sam’s, the newish tiki bar in the Polynesian. The rumor was, a few of the Cast Members who regularly work the bar decided to head to a local big box store to buy decorations and dress up the bar for the holiday … and basically it looked like Santa had vomited all over the watering hole.

So you can imagine our surprise when we walked into the bar one evening after dinner to find it quite tastefully decorated.

Well. “Taste” is relative …

What’s there is fun and appropriate, but hardly the holiday explosion we’d expected. So where’d all the Christmas cheer go?

Here’s what we heard from two different CMs: The lead Imagineer who worked on Sam’s got wind of the jolly holiday happenings at “his” bar and stormed in one evening, tearing down all of the decorations until there was “an appropriate amount of Christmas.” According to the tale, WDI has plans for “official” decoration for the bar in the works. Whether any of it is true or not, it’s a great story. The stuff of legend, really. And I do love a good story.

The ice-ing on this whole sha-bang? The volcano no longer flows hot with lava when someone orders a Krakatoa. Now it’s spitting snow for the holiday season:

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
