Aboard the Dream: Bay Street Festival Place

To get off the boat or not to get off the boat … that was my question. I wasn’t entirely sure it would be worth the time away from my beloved Disney Dream to check out the sights of Nassau. But ultimately, we decided to book a half-day excursion and hit the bricks.

We had fun. And we’ll definitely write about it in the future. But for now, just know that we had fun.

And then it was time to head back to the ship, and wow! Festival Place–an indoor shopping “village” and welcome center right outside the cruise terminal–is undergoing a renovation right now, and as  a result many of the vendors (about 40 of them, by my count) have set up shop around the security/customs check point.

It was a maze of music, tourists and vendors, all at decibels that would surely bring the police on the streets of New Jersey. But it was lively and fun … and I found a really beautiful original painting, got to know the artist and eventually convinced Dan that we needed to take the art home. And so we did.

Supposedly, the remodeled Festival Place opened this past December. Well … it was supposed to open in December, but I haven’t actually seen any confirmation that it opened. Everything’s a little different on island time, you know.

But whether it’s open or not, I’m sure it will be open by the next time I visit Nassau, and I can’t wait to check out the space in all of its glory.

Have you ever been to the old (or the new!) Festival Place? Tell us about it in the comments!
